Korean startup Acriil is developing new platforms using "affective computing", which is how computers respond to human emotions. A growing number of affective computing researches recently developed a computer system that can recognize an emotional state of the human user to establish affective human-computer interactions. The company is one of several on a quest to use tech to understand our emotions—a field called affective computing. Will we build long‐term human-machine relationships and create emotional attachment to robots? The Need for Affective Computing. I thought I would choose something that takes a look at criticism of affective computing and attempts to counter misconceptions of what the true aim of researchers in this field is. I'm not talking effective computing here, i'm talking Affective. As in relating to moods, feelings and attitudes. For instance, the startup Affectiva analyzes facial expressions to discover how people feel about ads. Affective computing is the study and development of systems and devices that can recognize, interpret, process, and simulate human affects (Wikipedia). So in other words I am talking about Emotional Computing. Is it necessary for an Intelligent Agent (IA) to have emotion? Affective Computing and Affective Interaction: Emotion in Technology. This paper will give an introduction to in-car affective computing with an extensive literature overview on studies and existing work in Section 2. €�Affective computing” is how computers recognize and respond to human emotion.
